HealthPark Medical Center has received full
accreditation as a Chest Pain Center for another year from the
Accreditation Review Committee!
This is pretty special for our community since HealthPark
Medical Center, which is part of Lee Memorial Health System, is
one of only 36 accredited chest pain centers in Florida. To
reach the next accredited Chest Pain Center you would have to
travel to Tampa.
The team of physicians and professional caregivers that made
this happen is to be commended for their dedication to the
“heart health” of our community.
Heart attacks the leading cause of death in the United
States---with 600,000 dying annually of heart disease---and more
than five million Americans visiting hospitals each year with
chest pain. Thus, heart health is an important issue for
Americans and for our community.
The goal of the Society of Chest Pain Centers is to
significantly reduce the mortality rate of individuals with
early symptoms of a heart attack. This effort includes educating
the general public to recognize and react to the early symptoms
of a possible heart attack, reduce the time that it takes to
receive treatment, and increase the accuracy and effectiveness
of treatment.
The emergence of Chest Pain Centers created the need to
establish standards designed to improve the consistency and
quality of care provided to patients. The Society of Chest Pain
Center’s accreditation process insures that centers meet or
exceed quality-of-care measures in acute cardiac medicine.
The Chest Pain Center at HealthPark Medical Center has
demonstrated its expertise and commitment to quality patient
care by meeting or exceeding a wide set of stringent criteria
and completing on-site evaluations by a review team from the
Society of Chest Pain Centers.
Key areas in which a Chest Pain Center must demonstrate
expertise include:
• Integrating the emergency department with the local emergency
medical system
• Assessing, diagnosing, and treating patients quickly
• Effectively treating patients with low risk for acute coronary
syndrome and no assignable cause for their symptoms
• Continually seeking to improve processes and procedures
• Ensuring Chest Pain Center personnel competency and training
• Maintaining organizational structure and commitment
• Having a functional design that promotes optimal patient care
• Supporting community outreach programs that educate the public
to promptly seek medical care if they display symptoms of a
possible heart attack
With heart disease being the no. 1 killer of Americans, it’s
comforting to know that an accredited Chest Pain Center is so
close to home. Also, with the accreditation you know that the
team at HealthPark Medical Center is trained to care for your
heart with the best patient outcomes.
You can rest easy if you seek care at HealthPark Medical Center.
You’re in expert hands.
