Lee Memorial
Health System implemented a leadership restructuring in December
that will go a long way toward preparing for upcoming health
care reform while strengthening the system’s partnerships with
physicians.
The biggest
change made to the health system’s leadership structure was the
appointment of John Wiest and Lawrence Antonucci, M.D., to new
positions as Chief Operating Officers for LMHS.
John Wiest is
the new Chief Operating Officer for Business and Strategic
Services. Dr. Larry Antonucci is now Chief Operating Officer for
Hospital and Physician Services. They will serve as my “go-to”
leaders to promote internal and external collaboration and more
efficient decision making as we continually strive to offer an
even better overall patient experience.
John and Larry
will work closely with our talented and experienced leadership
team to ensure that we are meeting the needs of our patients and
families while preparing for long-term changes to the face of
health care in light of current and impending health reform
legislation from the federal government.
John, who
served as LMHS’ Chief Financial Officer for 10 years, will lead
the organization’s financial, facility and business functions,
as well as spearhead the system’s focus on outpatient services
and continuum of care strategies. He has more than 20 years
experience in health care leadership and is the immediate past
chair for the Horizon Council, which works to strengthen the
community’s economic development to create and retain jobs, and
currently serves as president of the Horizon Foundation.
John is an
energetic and talented leader who has the vision and proven
track record necessary to help guide LMHS through increasingly
challenging economic times.
Larry joined
LMHS full time in 2007 as Chief Administrative Officer for Cape
Coral Hospital. In summer 2009, he was appointed Chief Operating
Officer of Hospital Services. He will lead LMHS’ efforts to
strengthen patient care at all LMHS hospitals, while assisting
with physician relations, employment, contracting and
partnering. Larry practiced Obstetrics and Gynecology for 25
years in Lee County. He helped build a large multi-specialty
group practice and previously served as managing partner for
Physicians Primary Care, Medical Director for Lee Memorial
Hospital’s Women’s Services and Medical Director for Cape Coral
Hospital.
Larry will also
play a pivotal role in helping LMHS create a physician
organization that will be a partnership between LMHS and local
physicians designed to help develop and implement a shared
vision for health care in the community.
With this
new streamlined leadership structure, LMHS is even better
prepared to respond to the health care needs of our community.
Peace,

Jim Nathan
