At Lee Memorial
Health System, we have long prided ourselves on being a regional
health care system. In addition to caring for the residents of
Lee County, we provide care to those in our neighboring counties
of Charlotte and Collier. We also routinely treat patients from
DeSoto, Glades, Hendry and Highlands counties, and we even see
patients from as far away as the Miami and Tampa Bay areas, as
well as, of course, visitors from “up north.”
We offer several services and facilities that cannot be found elsewhere
in the region, such as The Children’s Hospital of Southwest
Florida—the only full-service child health care facility between
Tampa and Miami. We also have the region’s only Level II Trauma
Center at Lee Memorial Hospital, one of only 11 state designated
Level III Regional Perinatal Centers offering high risk
obstetric services and a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
in The Children’s Hospital, and this region’s only Kidney
Transplant program at Gulf Coast Medical Center. And these are
just a very small sampling of the regional services LMHS offers
to our patients!
However, it is not just these services that attract patients to our facilities.
Our skilled and dedicated team of health care professionals also
plays a large role in our status as a regional health care
facility.
I’d like to share snippets from two letters I received this past summer from
John Danko, a resident of Highlands County who makes the trek to
Lee County whenever he needs health care. John was a patient at
HealthPark Medical Center twice in May. His wife, Theresa, had
been admitted to HPMC the previous year and wrote me a letter
praising the care she received on 6 West. John requested that he
also be admitted to 6 West and was equally effusive with his
praise.
John also took the time to recognize Drs. Michael Weiss and Britto Chinnappan,
as well as several members of the 6 West team who made his stay
at HPMC exceptional, in addition to the Food Services staff
members. In addition, John’s letter makes reference to the
wonderful treatment he received in the Emergency and Surgical
departments. “HealthPark has first-class facilities and
amenities; but it starts with the people, and nowhere else is
this more evident than at HealthPark,” he wrote.
In his second letter, John writes about needing care for another health
problem in August. He once again returned to HPMC, where he
praised the care he received from David Goldfarb, PA, Diana
Gutierrez and Drs. Chinnappan and Moutaa BenMaamer.
John required surgery during this visit to HPMC, and he received care from Lee
Memorial Home Health during his recovery. He very highly praised
Erin Pinta, RN. “I thank God every day in my prayers for
bringing Erin into my life; for he knew that I needed more than
a nurse, that I needed an Angel!” John also wrote.
Obviously, I enjoy reading these positive patient letters. They demonstrate
that our LMHS team really does go above and beyond to ensure
that our patients feel comfortable and well taken care of
throughout the many services offered by our System. These
wonderful letters reinforce that LMHS is truly blessed with
talented and compassionate Caring people…caring for people.
Peace,

Jim Nathan
