More than 9,000 physicians and employees
affiliated with Lee Memorial Health System (LMHS) work
tirelessly every day and night to care for the patients and
families in our community. However, the exceptional level of
care provided could not be accomplished without the more than
3,000 volunteers who work throughout our System. These
volunteers give up so much of their personal time to help not
only our community, but also the employees and physicians who
work within LMHS.
Our volunteers can be found throughout every part of our health
system. They are the welcoming faces at the information desks,
the ones who send lost family members in the right direction,
answer telephones and help with other office work, make
deliveries, assemble patient charts, drive trolley cars in the
parking lots and assist staff in countless other tasks and
programs. They also provide leadership through three dedicated
volunteer organizations: the Lee Memorial Auxiliary, Cape Coral
Hospital Auxiliary and Gulf Coast Medical Center Auxiliary.
There are literally hundreds of other ways that our volunteers
help provide the high quality health care that our patients
deserve. These wonderful volunteers donate thousands of hours
each year to ensure that LMHS can meet its mission on behalf of
our community. They are a vital part of our health care team who
help us to perform large and small miracles that happen in our
facilities each day and night. I know of very few volunteer
organizations throughout the nation that could rival this caring
group of 3,000 LMHS volunteers!
In the past year alone, these dedicated volunteers gave back
over $9 million dollars to the health system through the
estimated value of donated hours worked and through the various
fundraising efforts of the three Auxiliaries. Their direct
financial support helped fund educational grants, new technology
and facility improvements. The LMHS volunteers are truly a major
part of the LMHS family!
Southwest Florida is blessed with a large number of truly
special volunteers. While we should show our appreciation for
their service every day and every night, this week, April 19-26,
marks National Volunteer Week, and offers a wonderful
opportunity to thank all volunteers for their support and to
recognize them for all they do to help others!
On behalf of our community, our staff and the thousands of
patients served each year, we offer a heartfelt thanks to every
volunteer who shares his or her time with LMHS. There is no
better day than today to seek out an LMHS volunteer and give
thanks for what they do each day and each night to help others
in need.
Thank YOU volunteers for all your hard work, dedication, support
and love. YOU mean so much to all of us at LMHS.
Peace,

Jim Nathan, LMHS President
