VHA's Bright Ideas Award
LMHS received a 2009 Bright Ideas Award
from VHA Southeast. Our System was recognized as the top health
system in the category of Financial/Operational Improvement for
our Cost Savings/Revenue Enhancement initiative that we launched
last year, which resulted in $65 million in cost savings and
revenue enhancement.

2nd by AARP
LMHS has been named second in the nation by AARP as one of the
"50 Best Employers for Workers Over 50". This is the fifth
consecutive year LMHS has been in the top 10.

Recognized Again by AARP
LMHS has been named fifth in the nation of AARP's "50 Best
Employers for Workers Over 50". The award was established by
AARP to honor employers showing a commitment to an aging
workforce. LMHS was named to the top ten in 2005, 2006 and 2007.

LMHS Earns
National Recognition for Visioning Project
The National Association of Public Hospitals and Health
Systems announced LMHS earned Honorable Mention in the category
of "Community Engagement" for the System's Community Health
Visioning 2017 project which was launched in the spring of
2007 after the purchase of SWFRMC and GCH. The purpose of the
Visioning was to create a shared vision for the future of
health care in our area.

Honored by the Florida Nurses Association with the 2008
Frances Smith Clinical Excellence Award. Criteria for this
recognition include conference participation in the way of
nominations, sponsorships, attendance and how the facility
creates an environment that encourages nurses to become
clinically excellent.

Top 100 Integrated Healthcare Networks
LMHS ranks among the "Top 100 Integrated Healthcare
Networks" (IHNs) in the country. Verispan's report - regarded as
the nation's premier rating system - evaluates IHNs on
performance and degree of integration. Hospitals making the "Top
100" list possess critical success factors and have the ability
to operate as a unified organization in eight categories. The
categories are integration, integrated technology, contractual
capabilities, outpatient utilization, financial stability,
services and access, hospital utilization and physicians. You

study, consumers ranked LMHS the highest in our area for
providing quality healthcare services.

named 2nd in the nation of AARP's 50 Best Employers for
Workers Over 50. The award, now in its sixth year, was
established by AARP to honor employers showing a commitment to
an aging workforce. To be recognized a second time by AARP is an
amazing accomplishment. The AARP Magazine will feature
the Best Employer winners in its November-December issue.

notified it is the recipient of the 2006 VHA Leadership Award
for Operation Excellence which will be announced at the 2006
VHA Leadership Conference on May 22. This award honors
organizations that have differentiated themselves around

Top 100 Integrated Healthcare Networks
As reported in Modern Healthcare, February 6, 2006,
page 28, Lee Memorial Health System is ranked #29 of the 100
best-performing integrated healthcare networks in the country.
There are only 2 other healthcare delivery systems in Florida
named in the 100 best. The commitment to continued improvement
of the quality of service, continuity of care, and connectivity
is how LMHS made the list. Accolades to the physicians,
employees and volunteers who are committed to ensuring our

VHS
(Voluntary Hospital Association) awards LMHS special recognition
of Safety Improvement from VHA-Southeast.
Based upon a Falls Prevention Program developed by Lee
Memorial Home Health, this highly successful program has
previously been recognized by Florida Medical Quality Assurance
and has been identified as a best practice to be duplicated
by other home health agencies around the nation. This
innovative program has saved lives and reduced injuries for
patients served.

Giannuzzi, Chief Nurse Executive, LMHS honored with 'OVERAL
LEADERSHIP' award.
The Florida Organization of Nurse Executives (FONE) Region
II presented its "Overall Leadership" Award to Donna
Giannuzzi, Chief Nurse Executive, Lee Memorial Health System (LMHS).
To earn this award, recipients must illustrate nursing
leadership abilities as a visionary and as a leader; maintain
professional and community involvement; have an impact on
practice environment; be an active mentor and role model; and be
consistently compassionate and caring. This award is the most
prestigious of the five awards given annually by FONE.
Lee
Memorial Health System Receives Leadership Award From VHA, Inc.
VHA, Inc., a national health care provider alliance based in
Irving, Texas, has recognized Lee Memorial Health System with
its 2005 Leadership Award for operational excellence. Lee
Memorial Health System is one of only 32 VHA member hospitals
nationwide to receive this prestigious honor. The 2005
Leadership Award for operational excellence is given to member
organizations who have distinguished themselves by going the
extra mile to pursue excellence. There are several
nationally-recognized programs that have set the standards for
quality including Employer of Choice®. Lee Memorial Health System
is an Employer of Choice award winner.
Workforce
Development Award given to LMHS Human Resources Department
Each year, the SW Florida Workforce Development Board
recognizes the accomplishments of individuals, events or
organizations that clearly demonstrate success in achieving a
quality workforce for Southwest Florida, with the Champion
Award. This year, the Human Resources Department at Lee Memorial
Health System is recognized with the Champion Award. The
recognition is for efforts made by LMHS to achieve workforce
development. The P C T (patient care technician) to C N A
(certified nursing assistant) Training Grant, and the C N A to P
N (Licensed Practical Nurse) grants were honored. Both grants
helped staff meet their career development goals while providing
the community with quality healthcare professionals.
"Outstanding Florida Council of Aging Member" Award
LMHS Gerontology Business Leader for Older Adult Services,
Sue Maxwell, has been awarded the Dr. Carter Osterbind
Outstanding Florida Council of Aging Member Award. She has also
been chosen as an at-large representative for the upcoming 2005
White House Conference on Aging in Washington, DC, to be held in
December 2005.

Best Employer for Workers over 50" Winner
LMHS is 10th in the nation. This award is given to employers
who have exemplary practices and recognize the great value of
older employees as a key resource in their organizations. Our
over-50 workers provide knowledge and skills to the workplace

AMERICAN BUSINESS AWARDS - STEVIE AWARD
Jon C. Cecil, Chief Human Resources Officer, won a Stevie
Award for Best Human Resources Executive at The 2005 American
Business Awards. Hailed as "the business world's own Oscars" by
the New York Post (April 27, 2005), the American Business
Awards are the first national, all-encompassing business awards
program honoring great performances in the workplace.

Nurses Association 2005 Nurse Exemplar Awards
LMHS swept the top three spots in this year's District 7
Clinical Recognition Program. The Top Nurse Exemplar was Mary
Taylor, Cape Coral Hospital; runners-up were Kathy Ormandy,
HealthPark and Marva Pharis, LMH. The focus of the FNA Clinical
Excellence Recognition Program is to publicly value excellence
in nursing practice. It also recognizes the nominated nurses as
experts in a given clinical situation or setting.

DISTINGUISHED HOSPITAL AWARD FOR PATIENT SAFETY
This award is based on our performance in thirteen patient
safety indicators developed by the Agency for Healthcare
Research and Quality. This was achieved by the dedication and
teamwork of staff, physicians and volunteers; each with a
commitment to excellence and to patient safety.
NATIONAL
2005 VHA LEADERSHIP AWARD FOR OPERATION EXCELLENCE
This award honors organizations that have differentiated
themselves around national performance standards by achieving
exceptionally high levels of performance. As an employer of
choice for two consecutive years, LMHS achieves the VHA
Leadership Award for Operational Excellence. This award means
that LMHS achieves exceptionally high levels of performance

2005 ASTER
AWARD
"Connected" Newsletter Wins National Award. LMHS' very own
employee newsletter is in the national spotlight. "Connected"
won an Aster Award in the category of internal
publication/newsletter for a healthcare system. The Aster Awards
program provides national-level recognition for healthcare
organizations and advertising agencies who strive for excellence
in medical marketing. The May issue of Marketing Healthcare
Today will publish a complete list of winners.

AWARD OF DISTINCTION -
#1 In the Nation
Care Management Program Led by Chris Nesheim-Plonski and
Dr. Mark Greenberg, this stellar team was recognized for their
"commitment to a collaborative philosophy and an
interdisciplinary process for case management." According to L.
Greg Cunningham, CEO of The American Case Management
Association, "Lee Memorial Health System demonstrates what is
possible in patient care when leadership and medical staff make
a solid commitment to case management services." This award is
named the Benjamin Franklin, the co-founder of the first
organized hospital in the U.S. It speaks to leadership and
forward thinking, collaboration with medical staff, system
leadership, and to our overall team approach to effective case
management. LMHS has received calls and emails from all over the
nation with congratulations and with questions so that other
health care delivery systems will be able to duplicate the LMHS
program.
2005 BEST
PRACTICES AWARD
Award Recognizes Outstanding Achievement in Women's
HeartAdvantage Initiative. This award was presented to Lee
Memorial Health System for its effective use of communications
channels to further the cause of health care around our nation's
leading cause of death - heart disease. The Women's
HeartAdvantage Initiative, VHA, is taking the lead in making a
difference for women and heart disease by asking women to "Take
Care. Take Charge. Take Heart" of the risks and threat of heart
disease. This campaign is a call to action for women of SW
Florida. Women's HeartAdvantage is the first hospital-based
program to address women and heart disease by teaching women how
to identify heart attack symptoms; encouraging women to seek
immediate medical attention; facilitating hospital development
of cardiac programs specifically designed for women; and
improving clinical outcomes. Women are particularly at risk;
more women than men have died of cardiovascular diseases every
year since 1984. LMHS is honored to be recognized nationally for
outstanding achievement in the Women's HeartAdvantage program.

GOLD SEAL
OF APPROVAL™ DISEASE-SPECIFIC CERTIFICATION
Lee Memorial Health System has earned the Gold Seal of
Approval™ for health care quality for two of its programs. The
Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations
awarded LMHS Disease-Specific Care Certification for the Lee
Diabetes Care and Lee Congestive Heart Failure Care Programs.
The certification is effective for two years until January,
2007. The certification means that the Diabetes and CHF programs
are in compliance with consensus-based national standards. The
programs maintain an effective use of established clinical
practice guidelines that manage and optimize care and the
performance measurement and improvement activities meet national
standards.
