Giving Blood: Your Donation Serves Our Community
At Lee Memorial Health System, we do not export donated blood -
every drop goes to help save the lives of patients at your
community-owned hospitals: Lee Memorial Hospital, HealthPark
Medical Center, and Cape Coral Hospital.
The blood used for patient care has to be continuously
replenished in order to maintain a constant blood supply. This
means our blood centers need a total of 500 donors a week.
HEALTH BENEFITS OF DONATING
Every time you donate blood, you receive vital health checks
at no cost. At our blood centers, you will be checked for the
following:
- Pulse rate
- Blood pressure
- Body temperature
- Anemia (iron level)
- Blood type
- On request, we also will check your cholesterol levels.
HELPING MORE THAN ONE PERSON
Just a single pint of blood can help save the lives of several
people. Your donation can be separated into its different
components; the platelets may go to a child with leukemia, the
plasma to a patient with a clotting problem and the red blood
cells to an accident victim.
