Southwest Florida Regional Medical Center is a 400- bed acute care facility, which opened in April of 1974. The hospital has received national recognition for outstanding clinical care, and has been named to the “100 Best Hospitals” list overall excellence five times, putting it among a very elite list of hospitals aptly named the “Best of the Best” by Solucient, Inc. (the independent firm which rates all hospitals annually). Additionally, Southwest has been recognized by Solucient as a “100 Top Hospital” for specific clinical services including cardiac excellence, orthopedic excellence, and intensive care excellence. Lee County EMS has designated Southwest Florida Regional Medical Center as one of two hospitals for patients suffering from a heart attack or stroke. Southwest Florida Regional Medical Center is the area’s only JCAHO certified Primary Stroke Center in Lee County.

• Kidney Transplant – the Transplant Center at Southwest Florida Regional Medical Center is the only renal transplant center between Tampa and Miami. The waiting time for transplantation at Southwest is among the shortest in the nation. (In 2004, our average wait time has averaged less than seven months.)

  • MRI, CT (GE Lightspeed scanner – among the fastest in the world), Nuclear medicine, Ultrasound, X-ray, Mammography, Cardiac Stress testing, Pulmonary function testing, Angiography

  • Hyperbaric Medicine – Southwest has the area’s only mulitplace hyperbaric chamber, used for treating patients with non-healing wounds, as well as those suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning, decompression sickness (commonly called the “bends” from diving).
