Portable Donation Chairs
January15, 2009

The Lee Memorial Blood Center Blood Mobile is out and about seven days a week collecting much needed blood. Even though it travels easily, the large vehicle cannot reach every location.

“As we all know parking is really hard but there are a lot of businesses there that we can’t penetrate because mobiles, parking, and cones,” says Nancy Hendrick who is a project coordinator with Lee Memorial Blood Centers. With that problem in mind, Nancy and her staff reached out to the Lee Memorial Hospital Auxilary program for help.

The program donated several thousand dollars towards purchasing portable blood donation equipment that can be set up indoors. “The six donor chairs come with a dolly that we can roll I and out and a single case for when they draw donors it’s very portable everything has wheels,” Nancy says.

The new portable set-up also offers some businesses a better option for donating blood during the workday. “There are a lot of area businesses that we could set up in. When we go into these businesses it’s easier for the business itself to keep track of their employees, the environment that we will be in will be inside they don’t have to walk outside, go down the stairs, and get on the mobile that helps. We can also bring in food for the donor base to have them eat and we can put it all in the same room and work all together.”
