Super-Sized Meals & Fast Food
Airdate: January 28, 2006

Every day nearly a quarter of American adults eat at fast food restaurants.

Consumer Marc Fargo's says, "I thought super sized meals were awesome. I mean, you get more for your money, why not? I began to question it though when I'd get into the gym and you know, the pounds just keep adding on. I don't know if it's necessary."

Nurse Practitioner Carmen Sylvester explains that the fast food industry has become aware of our bulging waistline and the health dangers that come with it - obesity, high cholesterol & heart disease. "Well it's difficult to break the cycle but it's really a matter of educating people on what's healthy eating and what's not."

Carmen says that many fast food restaurants are now shaping up their menus offering salads and other healthy options. "With less fried fatty foods and less high fat and cholesterol in their foods."

Carmen also says that the truth is, even at fast food restaurants you can eat healthy. You just have to give it a little thought. "Ultimately it is the customer's choice what to eat."

So now you can truly have it your way, knowing that you can choose grilled chicken over fried, and bag those french fries altogether in favor of fruit or salad.

And beware of hidden dangers on the drink menu. Shakes and other ice cream drinks can contain more than 1,000 calories and all of your fat allotment for the day.
