If you or a member of your family has an emergency, there’s one more place you can depend on.
Dr. Larry Hobbs is the medical director for Southwest Florida Regional Medical Center.
He says, “This is our typical examination room for the general patient who arrives
here at the emergency department.” The plastic covers are still in place but the
new Gulf Coast Medical Center is working hard to make sure doors open on time on
March 8th.
The facilities will include an emergency department larger than any other in our
area. “Presently at Southwest Florida Regional Medical Center we have 18 beds. At
Gulf Coast Hospital we have eight beds. This emergency department at the Gulf Coast
Medical Center will have 42 beds,” says Dr. Hobbs.
The new facility is also set up to include an intake process which should allow
for shorter ER wait times. Dr. Hobbs adds, “Prior to the advent of our intake system,
we were seeing an average wait of about an hour and fifteen minutes before that
patient actually saw a medical provider. Now we’ve got that down to an average of
fifteen minutes and that’s significant when you’re dealing with large volumes of
patients.”
The emergency department will also include a 40-slice cat scan machine, a digital
x-ray machine and a decontamination room to deal with a potential chemical hazard.
