Sleep Diagnosis
February 27, 2009 |
Gone are the 8 hour workdays. More and more workers are having to clock in more
hours at the office, and that’s causing people to
spend less
time taking care of
their health.
Dr. Dan Pulsipher, a family physician with Lee Memorial Health System is seeing
more problems associated with a lack of sleep. “There’s an entity called “Shift/Work
Sleep Disorder, and there is effective treatments for that, for people who’s employment
requires them to work shift work.”
Dr. Pulsipher is also seeing an increase in chronic problems associated with a lack
of sleep: restless leg syndrome and obstructive sleep apnea. “We know there’s the
epidemic of obesity in the country. We’re seeing more and more obstructive sleep
apnea with is often linked with obesity,” says Pulsipher.
In order to get a better night’s sleep, a bedroom makeover may be in order. “What
helps is to create an environment that’s conducive to quality sleep. Get the distractions
out of the bedroom and keep the TV turned out,” adds Dr. Pulsipher. Also, make sure
you bedroom is dark and cool, which doctors say will help you stay comfortable while
you get that well deserved rest.
