Piper Update
March 3, 2009 |
At birth, Piper Buckley weighed 3 pounds and 17 ounces. The newborn, the daughter
of former Everblades’ player, Tom Buckley, was born 8 weeks early. Piper was monitored
24 hours a day in the Children’s Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
Her situation caught the attention of Red Sox players during last year’s celebrity golf classic as they raised money to benefit the hospital. Today, Piper is making major strides. “She’s fantastic. She was running around last night. She’s a little
behind the curve, but you would never know it. As far as her size/weight/height,
she’s coming along at her own pace,” says Buckley.
The Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida strives to make sure every child is
cared for, and every parent’s fears are alleviated.
Buckley adds, “It’s a tremendous attribute to have and see the NICU here in Fort
Myers, and the things they do from the doctors to the nurses.” In Piper’s case,
it was the love and attention early in life, that is now benefitting her as she
grows.
