GCMC Opening
March 6, 2009

This is the newest addition to the Lee Memorial Health System family: Gulf Coast Medical Center. The 436,000 square foot facility will open Sunday, housing the largest emergency department in our area. State of the art equipment is also installed throughout the building. “All new equipment at Gulf Coast Medical Center is in and operational,” says Alex Greenwood, System Administrator for Gulf Coast Hospital. “We’ve already kind of worked through the implementation and the start up process for the departments, preparing for the large patient move from Southwest Regional.”

As this new hospital opens and becomes a part of Gulf Coast Hospital, a familiar facility will close: Southwest Florida Regional Medical Center will officially lock its doors to the public on Sunday at 7am. Services offered there and at Gulf Coast Hospital will now be offered at Gulf Coast Medical Center.

This weekend, patients will be moved to the new facility. “The patient transfer begins Sunday at 8am. Patients from Southwest start coming out of the exits at SW, coming by EMS ambulance.” Says Greenwood.

For more information about the new hospital, log on to www.leememorial.org. Patients at Southwest Florida Regional Medical Center will be transferred over the weekend.
