Southwest Closes
March 7, 2009 |
It’s the end of the road for Southwest Florida Regional
Medical Center. The familiar
blue and white building will close and lock
its doors promptly at 7am on Sunday
morning.
That’s when the staff will start transferring patients on a three tier system, to
the new Gulf Coast Medical Center. “All three start at 8am, bringing patients down
the elevators, out the door to the ambulances, 5 miles down Metro to Gulf Coast
Medical Center,” explains Alex Greenwood, System Director for Gulf Coast Hospital.
Those who have an emergency will not be able to seek treatment at Southwest Florida
Regional after Saturday and should call 9-1-1. “If we do have what we call walk-ins
that come in by vehicle, we will have EMS stationed at the Southwest Regional emergency
room, which will be closed at the time, and EMS will make sure they make it to the
property facility,” adds Greenwood.
Gulf Coast Medical Center officially opens its doors for patients on March 8th,
with outpatient services beginning on Tuesday. |
