Superfoods for Kids
March 14, 2009 |
Forget superheroes. Its all about superfoods. Foods packed with a punch, designed
to give your child the energy and nutrients they need for a balanced diet. The
superfood enemy: prepackaged foods, which are loaded with sugar and fat and can
leave your child’s body feeling rundown.
Heather Brown is an exercise specialist for the Cape Coral Wellness Center. She
educates people on healthy lifestyle changes, including diet. “Try to get whole
foods, whole vegetables, nuts, and lean meats, all things that are good and healthy
for your kids, “ says Brown. Some kids may try and resist the power of the superfoods.
A little give and take is key. “I always say let kids have a little bit of sweet
and you don’t want to deprive anybody of anything because than they’ll just go crazy
and eat more of it. Just monitor the amount of refined sugars that you put in your
kids body,” adds Brown. And then there’s the battle over the sweet tooth. Brown
suggests, “if they want something sweet, try a yogurt or a piece of fruit and if
they want something else, just give them one cookie.”
It’s also important to make sure kids are getting regular exercise and if they do
get that long awaited treat, make sure it lasts. |
