What better way to end National Volunteer week then to highlight one local couple that has twenty thousand hours worth of volunteer time between them at one local hospital.
The Conniff's know a thing or two about commitment. They've been married for 61 years and they started volunteering together here when Gulf Coast Hospital first opened.
Fifteen-year volunteer Jack Conniff says, "When we started work here we had one patient in the hospital, well, it was a brand new hospital. We kind of fell in the love with the place."
In love with the place they volunteer and in love with each other, they feel very fortunate they get to work together as well. Dorothy Conniff says, "We're more than married, we're friends. We happen to enjoy one another so, we work together."
And of course there's no better way to end volunteer week than for you to become a volunteer yourself. I promise you'll feel a lot better about yourself. Jack also says, "We get more than we give because it is a satisfying occupation."
And Dorothy adds, "That's it, we get more than we give. Because it keeps us busy and we feel like we're helping somebody. Everybody ought to volunteer."
So if you would like to become a volunteer contact Volunteer Services at 239-939-8636.
Our local hospitals are always looking for volunteers, welcoming teenagers through seniors.
