Infant CPR- Family and Friends
April 26, 2007

Training to perform CPR can mean the difference between life and death -especially in infants and children.

Clinical educator Colicia Reeves says it's tragic but true. There are several situations that could cause a child to require cardiopulmonary resuscitation - better known as CPR. "Infants will go into cardiac arrest is preceded by a respiratory problem. Such as SIDS, choking, drowning, injuries."

No one ever wants to think about having to perform CPR on an infant, but new parents Jack and Jennifer Williams have come to realize a few things now that baby Kate has joined their family. "You need to be prepared, your child's safety is the most important thing," says the Williams family.

And to help parents prepare the newest addition to the American Heart Association's line of CPR anytime products has arrived. It's infant CPR anytime and it can teach you the basics of CPR in the comfort of your own home. "You watch it, you do what they're teaching you what to do and you've got the knowledge and the skills, the basic skills to perform CPR," says Paul Filla, Lee County emergency services spokesperson.

Paul also says the CPR anytime kit is for people who haven't been certified and who have not had an opportunity to attend a traditional CPR training course. "It's not going to give you the certification, it's not as good as maybe taking a full blown CPR class with a certified instructor but it is giving you that general knowledge."

This self-directed learning program allows families and others caring for infants to learn the core basic skills of infant CPR and relief of choking in just 22 minutes.

The CPR Anytime kit can be purchased for $34.95.
