Novasure Surgery
April 30, 2007

Jennifer Fletcher has undergone a procedure that has stopped her heavy periods. "And it's to stop my periods or to slow them down to just a light flow or just a little spotting," says Jennifer.

Jennifer's solution? It's called Novasure. But first you and your doctor need to make sure your heavy bleeding isn't caused by something more serious.

"After we've determined that the abnormal uterine bleeding is not from anything from cancer or hormonal and the patient just continues to bleed despite any medical treatment we give, then we give her the option of having Novasure," explains ob/gyn Dr. William Rincon.

Dr. Rincon also says this is all done by permanently removing the lining of the uterus through the brief application of electrical energy. "It's a 90 second procedure, very short, it's an outpatient procedure, we put the patient under anesthetic, and it's done quickly. It avoids a hysterectomy."

Novasure does not require general anesthesia and one year after the procedure more than 92% of women treated with Novasure say they were satisfied with the results.

It's estimated that 1 in 5 women experience unusually heavy menstrual bleeding.
