Steven Grauel leads a double life. One day a week this grandfather transforms
into Squeaky the Clown. On that day he brings smiles to the patients at the
Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida. “I come to the hospital to have fun
with the kids. I come every Monday now. It’s a special bond that you get with
the children when you’re in this situation.” When Squeaky shows up in a
patient’s room you can bet he’ll put on a magic show and bring some big laughs.
“You can spend hours just making balloons for them or telling them silly jokes
or doing little magic tricks for them. I get more entertainment out of it than
they do I’m sure I just love to see the smile on their face when I come in.”
Squeaky says he always hopes to bring a little joy into a patient’s life even if
they are going through a rough time. “Many times when they’re hurting I get a
chance to see a smile by the time I leave.” Even though he’s just clowning
around, Squeaky says he wouldn’t trade his time with the kids for anything.
“It’s a wonderful job and anybody that loves children I know they’d love doing
this. If you are interested in volunteering your time at an area hospital you
