Therapeutic Tunes

Sally Prouty is a musician. She loves to play piano and has found a unique way
to share her talent with others. “I play piano here. I’m usually here two or
three days a week.” But here is not a stage or music hall. Sally chooses to play
piano in the lobby of HealthPark Medical Center. “I play for not only my
enjoyment but for the enjoyment of all the people that come by.” She says by
playing music in this setting she knows she’s able to touch people with every
note. “Many of the people that come by are under stress they’re worried about a
loved one and I’m here to relieve that stress as much as possible. I’m here to
bring a smile and to give a smile.” For six years Sally has been bringing smiles
through son. She says she couldn’t imagine doing it anywhere else. “I love every
minute of it. You go away from here and you feel like, I think I’ve helped
someone here today. And if you have a feeling of helping someone there is no
greater feeling.” Sally and dozens of other musicians play at HealthPark as a
part of the Arts in Healthcare Program. “I think every hospital should have room
for a piano and every hospital should have room for the arts in healthcare
program because it brings such joy and happiness.” |
