Ann Harrison-May began painting several years ago. “I started painting when I
was a little girl. I’ve just been painting all along.” For more than 30 years
Ann has been painting beautiful watercolors. “Water color teaches you a lot of
patience.” She has made hundreds of masterpieces. She says putting color to
canvas is one of her favorite parts of life. “The world as crazy as it is and
mixed up as it is that there’s some beauty to look at through paintings. I love
it. It’s healing and it gets your mind off everything. “You may think that Ann
has a lot on her mind especially because the artist is considered to be
disabled. “I was born without any arms. It was just an accident in
the genes, it’s a God thing.” That thing hasn’t stopped the very able artist
from creating beautiful paintings. She paints each colorful stroke using her
feet. “I’ve always just used my feet so to me they’re normal I mean they’re my
hands.” Ann hopes her art can serve a higher purpose especially for other people
living with disabilities. “He gave me this so I can teach other people how to do
things and that just because you don’t have any arms doesn’t mean anything. It
teaches people that there’s other ways of dealing with life.” Ann is a working
artist. She sells her paintings across the state of Florida and beyond. Her
artwork can also be seen hanging in the halls of Lee Memorial Health System
hospitals. Ann is also very involved in the Arts for the Disabled program. The
program helps train, support, display, and sell artwork from local artists with
disabilities. |
