Attention women! Looking to get healthier? Reduce stress? Get in shape? Feel great?

Heather Brown is an Exercise Specialist at the Cape Coral Wellness Center. She says just three simple moves may be all it takes. “There’s a lot of good exercises for women,” says Brown. The first: weight-bearing exercises. “I would focus on your quads, like legs, any upper body strength in your chest, you back and your shoulders, because we want to make sure our posture is good when we age,” explains Brown. You want to be sure you are doing the moves correctly so you don’t hurt your back. “A good squat for a lady would be feet about shoulder width apart, then you stick your bout at as you go down, your knees stay behind your toes, go as low as you can. If you only go to here, that’s fine, don’t try to go lower, you want your knees to cover your toes, and then you’re just coming up and squeezing your butt together,” demonstrates Brown.

The same with the upper body. “I’m just pushing it up this way, what its working is my chest here and a bit of my shoulders, it’s kind of like a pushup but it’s a little bit easier than a pushup. If you can’t do a pushup, this is the next best thing.”

Finally, get moving, to avoid bone loss. “You want to prevent any osteopenia or osteoporosis or bone loss and it has to be something that’s a pounding exercise, such as running, walking, or doing the elliptical trainer.”

As with all exercise regiments, Brown strongly suggests talking with your doctor to see which moves are right for you to keep yourself in tip top shape.

Also, drink that water. 64 ounces is recommended. Not only can water keep your body hydrated and blood flowing, it can also increase your metabolism.
