Workout Pitfalls
May 28, 2009 |
Doctors suggest a good workout several times a week to keep that body in tip-top
shape. But hitting that gym late at night could have the opposite affect.
“If you work out later in the evening prior to sleep, your core body temperature
will increase and stays high for some time, making it more difficult to sleep,”
says pediatric sleep specialist, Dr. Jose Colon of
The Children’s Hospital. Dr.
Colon warns not getting enough rest can lead to elevated stress, even weight gain.
Fitness experts say don’t let the time of day be an excuse. “As long as you have
time to workout, anytime is fine,” adds Cape Coral Wellness Center’s exercise specialist,
Heather Brown. If you have no other option but to exercise at night, stay well-hydrated
and take a relaxing bath or shower after your work out.
Strategies that could make your workout routine work in your favor, no matter what time of day.
