It’s a common investment strategy: save now and your money will grow over time.
This same strategy could be applied to preserving your memory bank as well. “Practicing
good memory techniques such as things that are taught at our Healthy Brain Initiative
Memory Camps will allow you to develop things over time,” explains Lee Memorial
Health System geriatrician, Dr. Michael Raab.
He
says adopting brain-sharpening skills early in life can help you cash in on a
better memory later. One way to start is with the people you meet. “So, when someone
tells you their name, be sure you get in the habit of repeating it to yourself,
looking at their physical: face, body, hair, eye color and create some sort of mental
aid,” explains Dr. Raab.
Even changing the way you shop for groceries can be mind altering. “Get in the habit
of categorizing. When you are writing your list, think of the order that the grocery
store is set up in, so as you go up and down the aisles, you can do that in your
mind and you get better and better at it,” adds Dr. Raab.
Easy exercises that could make for lasting memories.
Another way to invest in better memory tactics is by taking part in the Healthy
Brain Initiative program. You can call 239-772-6765 for more information.
