Acne Vulgaris and Acne Rosacea
June 30, 2009

They just don’t seem to go away. You’ve tried multiple over the counter medications and those red blotches just aren’t fading.

“There are different types of acne so it’s helpful to know what’s causing it,” says Family Practitioner, Dr. Avery Wright with Lee Physician Group.

The first type: acne vulgaris. This is commonly found in teens and occurs when hormones start to set in and change. “There’s also acne rosia which some people just see as rosacea. You kind of get redness generally around the cheeks and the nose and that can produce some bumps and pimples as well,” adds Dr. Wright. While the cause of rosacea is not known, there are many products on the market right now to treat both types of acne.

The first line of defense is knowing your skin type. “What kind of skin do you have? It is dry? Is it oily? Is it very sensitive where you are going to have a lot of eczema?”

A visit to the doctor can also help. Many offices have samples you can try to see which remedy works best to fight your blemishes.
