Essure Tape

July 19, 2007

According to the Mayo Clinic, different methods of birth control range from 92 to 99 percent effective.

Gynecologist Richard Bloy says that if you want to guarantee that you don’t get pregnant, a new procedure called Essure can make that happen. “We can say it’s the most effective device we’ve ever had.

Dr. Bloy explains that the procedure was 100% effective in clinical trials-compared to other options that left a slight chance of a woman trying to get pregnant. “It’s a very simple procedure where a wire mesh is put into the fallopian tube but from the inside of the uterus.”

And how is this different from just getting your tubes tied? Dr. Bloy says, “The affect is the same as a tubal ligation, the wire blocks the tube and the tube reacts by forming a scar around the wire so the tube is permanently blocked.”

The benefits of the procedure include no incisions, no anesthesia and a quicker recovery time.

The Essure procedure is non-reversible so consult with your doctor before making your final decision.
