Laser Resurfacing
August 1, 2007

Plastic surgeons are now using a new technology to help with skin imperfections.

Whether it’s to treat wrinkles, sun spots, or scars doctors like plastic surgeon John Bruno are using a new resurfacing technique to improve the look of your skin. "Instead of a laser removing a layer of skin, the fractional laser pokes holes, micro holes into the skin and stimulate the skin to develop new collagen, to thicken, and to look more youthful."

Dr. Bruno explains that with this new technique, only the top layer of the skin is treated which allows the body to heal much faster. "It is totally different from a facelift, we are working on the quality of your skin not on how much skin you have.”

Dr. Bruno says that the resurfacing treatment can be used on all areas of the body, and can also be used to minimize unsightly stretch marks. “It does help with stretch marks and it does seem to help. But you will never totally get rid of stretch marks but you can make them acceptable or somewhat smaller because you are stimulating enough collagen that it shrinks the skin."

Compared to other methods of skin resurfacing the fractional laser leaves the skin intact with no lasting redness.

This newer laser also allows patients to go back to work or to other activities without any recovery time.
