Physically Fit Kids
August 6, 2009 |
In this world of video games, computers, and other gadgets, the word “exercise”
can seem like a turnoff.
“We Americans like to have fun.” Dr. Bruce Berget, a pediatrician on the medical
staff of
The Children's Hospital, suggests using some of those computerized games
to your advantage. “You could get an exercise bike and have videos of riding through
Yosemite National Park that they can do,” he says.
A little pre-planning can also make a difference. “If we can just have the family
go for an afternoon walk or an early morning walk or swimming; its readily available
here. Or walking in a swimming pool, it provides a bit more resistance, it is a
little more fun, and they can splash their younger sister or whatever,’ explains Dr. Berget.
Giving them tasks around the house may also prove to be effective. ”Its family teamwork.
And certainly cleaning the garage all of us know, can be quite a bit of exercise,”
adds Dr. Berget.
Teaming up together could be the best way to score when it comes to healthy living
