August 15, 2009 |
They’re one step closer to making a career in healthcare a reality.
“We try to help everythong that applies, as much as we can,” says Mike Polito, with
Human Resouces and Workforce Development and Planning for Lee Memorial Health System.
These 190 men and women have just received $220,000 in educations grants from Lee
Memorial Health System. Money to help them fulfill their dreams, whether it be a
nurse, a pharmacist, doctor, or technician “We look at what are they going to school
for, look at their particular families, those kinds of things,” says Polito.
This financial gift is made possible through various local businesses, auxiliary
groups, endowment funds, even individual donations. Each year, more groups are added
to the list. “Very often, they enjoy it so much they start giving each year. We
invite them to the reception each year, so that they’re present when we are giving
out the checks,” explains Polito.
Since the program’s inception, $1.6 million has been awarded to local students.
“These are open to the public, as well as employees, family members, volunteers,
its open to anyone who has an interest in applying for funds to help them with their
healthcare careers,” says Polito.
Each student must complete an application process in order to qualify. The application
process begins on April 1 and ends on May 30th each year.
