Minding Your Weight
August 18, 2009 |
Meet James Guillard. He's lost 75 pounds in less than a year.
“I was ready. In my mind, it was just something I wanted to do.”
This North Fort Myers husband and father was at a health fair when he decided to
end his battle with weight once and for all. “I had tried a lot of the fad diets,
if you will, but I had finally just decided it was time for me to make a lifestyle
change,” adds Guillard.
Today, 1 out of 3 adult Americans is considered obese.
James started exercising then joined the Lee Center for Weight Management to kick
his weight loss into high gear. “We teach them lifestyle changes: how to eat the
right way and lose weight the right way,” says registered dietician, Elizabeth McCormick
who worked closely with James on an eating and exercise plan. “What was most impressive was over the holiday season he did this, so he started in November and
lost all through the holiday season,” she adds.
He has some encouraging words to those who want to win their own battle over the
bulge. “I think it’s like anything. When you set your mind to it, you can do it.
There’s no magic pill. There’s no magic bullet, per say. It’s got to be you.”
The Lee Center for Weight Management offers a 12-week program that focuses on portion
control, calorie counting, and how to build essential nutrients into your everyday
diet. For more information, you can call 239 573-5720.
