Allergy Eyes

The nice thing
about living in Florida is that there is always something in bloom.
In today’s Health Matters John Biffar tells us why it’s not always a pretty picture
when it comes to allergies and your eyes.
Ophthalmologist Michael Collins explains, “Here it can happen year round and it
can mean different things for different people so we always have to be on the outlook
for allergies and there always has to be a different diagnosis when your looking at someone with itchy eyes or red eyes.”
Dr. Collins says that the obvious solution is to stay inside away from the blooming
backyard-but that’s not always an option. if you wear contacts doctors say wearing
your glasses for a while is the first step to relieve irritation. “Its another irritant
on the surface of the eye so someone who has allergies and has problems or has dry
eyes, and dry eyes usually run with allergies I’ll usually have them remove their contacts and wear glasses until the exacerbation runs down.”
The good news is that there have been some recent technology breakthroughs such
as eye solutions and drops that help ease the patients eye allergies.
Plant pollen, mold and dust are the allergens that most affect the eyes.
