Women who choose to breastfeed can expect a number of benefits for both their babies and even themselves.
Sherry Demaria has breastfed all three of her children and for several really good reasons. "It made me closer to my children, it gave me a good strong bond with them. For my children's sake, my children were not sick when they were babies. Not at all."
Obstetrician Richard Bloy says it's true; breast milk enhances your baby's health because it contains antibodies to fight off infections. But did you know the benefits of breast-feeding can also start with mom - right after delivery? "Breast feeding is so good, I mean it's great for the baby but it's incredibly good for the mother, it contracts the uterus better, it contracts it so well that there's less bleeding in the long term."
Dr. Bloy also says that breastfeeding also helps mom return to her pre-pregnancy weight more quickly. "Breast feeding is the best thing, the mother's metabolism is so great fueling all that breast milk that weight loss comes off very quickly."
Sherry says that after learning the benefits of breast-feeding for both mother and child, Sherry said that one person highly influenced her decision to breastfeed her children. "My husband said it's a must. I wanted to anyway. I was young and I felt it was the best way to do it."
