Parenting Class
October 9, 2008 |
Many people say being a parent is the hardest job on the
planet. Jessica Carr is a parent educator
who sees first-hand how stressed out moms and dads can get.
“I’ve seen some parents come in pretty frustrated and near tears sometimes
just feeling like they want to do a great job for their children but sometimes it’s
hard, it’s isolating as a parent.”
But the good news is there is help out there and even better, it’s free. Lee Memorial Health System has teamed
up with The Nurturing Program to sponsor parenting classes.
Jessica says, “it’s for people who just want to make sure that they’re doing the best that they can for their children and for themselves, so it’s a really supportive,
positive, environment.”
The class is open to the public and lasts for eight weeks.
Each session is about two hours long.
“We do a lot of open discussion and hands-on activities so some role playing, we
watch videos and it’s kind of whatever the parents are needing at the time. I think they leave feeling empowered.
They go to bed feeling better at the end of the day, feeling like they’ve done good
things for their kids and for themselves.”
Right now registration for the class is open and there is no waiting list. To sign up call The Children’s
Advocacy Center
at (239) 432-3842. Classes are offered
at various locations and times each week. |
