PPEC Reunion
October 10, 2008 |
For the first few years of his life Eddie Wagner was a
patient at the Prescribed Pediatric Care Unit at The Children’s Hospital of Southwest
Florida. His father Robert says the staff at PPEC helped his son tremendously. “They
went beyond the payroll check to come and help us out.”
After being born premature, Eddie faced challenges such as feeding tubes and seizures.
But he was able to pull through thanks to the help of PPEC nurses and volunteers.
“If it wasn’t for them we medically did not know how to take care of Eddie. Without
them we wouldn’t have been able to survive. That’s the bottom line,” says Robert.
Eddie and dozens of other PPEC patients recently celebrated the program’s twelfth
birthday.
They were happy to be reunited with their classmates and caregivers. “They’re
happy to see the staff they recognize the staff and they’re happy to see them you
know we’re part of their lives for months and sometimes years,” says Lori Proia
the Director of PPEC.
Robert says there is no doubt that Eddie remembers the faces of the folks at PPEC.
“As soon as he sees somebody he’ll start clapping and he’ll know we’ve got to stop
and say hi. He made a lot of friends.”
Along with medical and nursing services the staff at PPEC also provides patients
with therapy and developmental services in a fun and child-friendly environment. |
