The Children's Hospital of SW Florida at Cape Coral
October 21, 2009 |
Lined with colorful walls and cartoon décor, this kid-friendly floor in Cape Coral
Hospital is similar to the one at HealthPark.
“We’re going to have the same physicians, the same staff rotating through both facilities.
The quality of care and the standard of care should be the same at both places,”
says Dr. Larry Antonucci, Chief Operating Officer for Hospital Services.
Hospitals can be a scary environment for kids. Here at this new extension of the
Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida, rooms and walls
are designed to put infants,
children,
even parents at ease.
“It’s really wonderful for the people of Cape Coral, because not only is it keeping babies closer and children closer to home. It does relieve some of the pressure
from HealthPark,” adds Dr. Antonucci.
Opening this month, the floor not only caters to children, but to expectant mothers,
too. “We already have a very nice regionalized system of care. What I mean by that
is, the low-risk mothers can continue to deliver at Cape Coral. If the mother becomes
high risk, or concerns about the baby, that mother will be transferred to HealthPark,”
adds The Children's Hospital neonatalogist, Dr. William Liu.
The same goes for kids. At the new Cape Coral extension, children can be hospitalized
and treated for the flu, dehydration, and other minor illnesses that do not require
intensive care.
