Halloween Alternatives & Safety
Air Date: October 30, 2006

Tomorrow's Halloween and we want everyone to have a fun and safe time.

The fun part of Halloween is really dressing up and walking around door-to-door meeting and greeting people along the way. Of coarse there's the candy - but here's a good tip for parents -learn to take it easy this year.

Jeanne Struve, a Registered Dietician at Southwest Florida Regional Medical Center suggest, "by limiting, you know, how many houses they go to. That way you don't have a years worth of candy at home or nobody's going to be overeating."

You'll really be doing yourself and your children a favor this year by concentrating on the "fun" rather than the "food."

Most kids you'll find, they want a little bit of candy but then the novelty of it wears off and they just don't need tons and tons of candy." And Mom, if you're on a diet during this time of year you really want to be careful not only about how much trick or treating candy you're brining in - but also what you're buying to pass out. "Cause what are you going to do with all of that extra candy?" warns Struve.

Chances are, if you're like me, you'll eat it. So, this advice can help us all to stay in great shape - at least until Thanksgiving

And of coarse stay safe this holiday by reminding kids to be aware of the traffic, looking both ways before crossing and not getting into cars or talking to strangers.
