Walk Safe
October 30, 2008 |
Many students at Bonita Springs Elementary begin their
day by walking to school. “We still have a small community school and lots of kids
ride bikes, lots of kids walk,” says David Deidrich who is a third grade teacher
at Bonita Springs Elementary.
Recently a group of teachers, parents, and students decided to join six Lee County
schools in promoting pedestrian safety. David says, “This is a really good event
to kind of let some of the people that are down here whether they are part time
residents or people down here on vacation know that there is a school a block off
Bonita Beach Road that they don’t typically see.”
Students also got the chance to
get some exercise while brushing up on their safety
skills. “You look both ways before you cross the street,” said walker Jon Allison.
Fellow student and walker Nicole Miller added, “To watch for red lights and green
lights and yellow lights because of course those are very important when you’re
walking because you never know if a car is going to start or when it’s going to
stop so it’s very important safety, safety first!”
