3D - 4D Ultrasounds
November 5, 2007

It’s a new technology that’s giving a new meaning to baby pictures.

A new mom is visiting her Physician one last time before she is scheduled to give birth in less than twenty-four hours. Today she’s getting one last glimpse of her baby boy inside here womb.

Dirk Peterson M.D says “our new ultrasound machine is an exceptional instrument that designed to provide clear imaging both three dimensional, two dimensional and four dimensional images of a developing fetus.”

Now physicians are required to offer screening to ultrasounds to all pregnant women regardless of the stage of their pregnancy.

Dr. Peterson says the new technology “makes those screenings A little more efficient. Two dimensional Ultra sounds obviously produce a picture that’s very flat for certain images that’s adequate and we can see exactly what we need to see. When the image is done in 3D or 4D we can basically see exactly what the babies face looks like at the moment.”

3D-4D ultra sounds also provide moving images of the fetus. While those are amazing for parents to see, they also help physicians determine the health and growth of a baby.

Dr. Peterson says, “The image quality is a lot better. We’re able to see eyelashes, we can see eyes moving, we can see hair moving, and we can see the outline of the ear. It’s practically valuable when we’re doing biometry, which is measuring the fetal body, the long bone extremities. He adds that the technology also offers some benefits for women who aren’t pregnant. “In three dimensional and four dimensional scanning enables us actually to see the contour of the ovaries, fallopian tubes and other reproductive organs in a way that was never possible before.” If you think that this new technology is right for you, talk with your physician. The service is offered in offices across Lee County.
