Weight Management
November 6, 2007

Whether you’re obese or slightly overweight, dropping pounds is never easy.

Dr. Salvatore Lacagnina is the medical director for Lee Physician Group. He says, “A lot of people will come in very frustrated because they’ve tried all sorts of diets and sometimes medications and they can’t get the weight off. You know weight issues are so problematic because they really lend themselves to creating problems with heart disease with metabolic syndrome with diabetes especially”.

Physicians say when it comes to losing weight, it’s better not to do it alone. “The patient meets with myself or one of the other physicians, also meets with a nutritionist, we try to get them in with an exercise specialist so they can develop a planned program of exercise and just making a well rounded approach to how they’re going to change their behavior so they can work on the weight problems,” says Lacagnina.

It’s not just about dropping pounds; it’s about changing your life. Dr. Lacagnina says, “Weight generally doesn’t come on quickly it doesn’t come off quickly and it really does have to become a lifestyle change so that you can manage it properly”. Physicians tell us there are some medications out not that can help you successfully and safely lose weight.”
