Sleep Tips for Christmas
December 24, 2006

It's the day before Christmas and tonight many of us will be so excited about the anticipation of Christmas morning, it's going to be hard to fall asleep especially for children.

Nine year-old Casey Roth says, "It's so hard to go to sleep on Christmas Eve because I'm so excited."

Registered Polysominagrapher Rob Galbreath explains that you probably don't want to put the children to bed too early on Christmas Eve chances are they will just lie in bed....anxious.  "This is something you really should avoid doing. you're going to want to maintain a regular sleep schedule."

Rob says to put them to bed at the usual time and maybe make sure they have a light snack before turning in for the night. "A light snack is ok, because you don't want to trigger any hunger pains through the night."

Rob also says that you we don't want to give the kids any excuse to get up in the middle of the night and that includes bathroom breaks as well. "Try not to drink too much before bed."

And tips for people of all ages:  you want to especially avoid caffeine at least 8 hours before bedtime.    and this holiday you can help yourselves fall asleep faster.  plan for a relaxing, "winding-down" time of at least 30 minutes before you go to bed. Rob adds that,  "You're going to want to take a nice, warm bath, find a book to read, some comfortable music, relaxing music that will help you achieve sleep on set."

Remember the faster we all fall asleep tonight, the sooner Santa clause Arrives.  Happy holidays.

Santa has 31 hours of Christmas to work with, thanks to the different time zones and the rotation of the earth so be sure you're sleeping when he comes into our area.
