Chief Operating Officer for Business and Strategic Services
John Wiest
joined Lee Memorial Health System in 1999, and served as Chief
Financial Officer for 10 years before assuming his current
position as Chief Operating Officer for Business and Strategic
Services in December 2009.
Leadership Responsibilities
John provides leadership in strategic and operational
planning of hospital services, including financial planning and
revenue cycle management; facility and service planning; and
business functions such as information technology and human
resources. In addition, he spearheads the system’s focus on
outpatient services and continuum of care strategies. In this
role, he is responsible for development and maintenance of a
sustainable model for care delivery that is patient-centered and
quality-driven.
John chairs the System Planning Group, which is the leadership
team responsible for long term strategic planning and facility
development and expansion. He also leads the Acute Care
Performance Improvement Steering Committee, which has oversight
for system performance improvement initiatives, including
patient safety, patient experience, quality outcomes, revenue
cycle and capacity management.
Professional Experience
John has more than 20 years experience in health care
leadership. Prior to joining Lee Memorial Health System, he
served as Vice President of Finance for NCH Healthcare System;
Assistant Executive Director of Finance for Humana
Hospital-Biscayne in Miami, Florida; and Vice President of
Finance for Lower Florida Healthcare System, Inc., in Key West.
Previously, John was a managing consultant for
PricewaterhouseCoopers in the Florida Financial Analysis
business line of the Health Care Regulatory Group.
Education
John holds a master's degree in business administration from
Florida Gulf Coast University and a bachelor's degree in
accounting and business from Frostburg State University in
Maryland. He is a certified public accountant.
Memberships/Community Involvement
John is a member of the Healthcare Financial Management
Association and the American Institute of Certified Public
Accountants. He is the immediate past chair for the Horizon
Council, which works to strengthen the community’s economic
development to create and retain jobs, and currently serves as
president of the Horizon Foundation. In addition, he serves as a
board member for Bank of Florida.
