Michael W. Smith
Chief Information Officer
Mike Smith joined Lee Memorial Health System in 1997, and serves as Chief Information Officer for the health system.
Mike is charged with overall leadership of the System's efforts to utilize information systems, technologies and methods for the achievement of Lee Memorial Health System's mission across all care delivery settings. He has operational responsibility for information systems/information technology, telecommunications, health information management (medical records), biomedical engineering and diagnostic technology strategies.
Mike has more than 25 years experience in healthcare delivery leadership, health information technology and electronic health records. He joined Lee Memorial Health System in 1997, following 10 years in various information technology leadership positions at Baylor Healthcare System in Dallas, Texas. Prior to that, he served as the Vice President of Operations for National Data Communications, a health care information systems company, also in Dallas, Texas, where he was responsible for software and hardware development and hospital implementations.
Mike holds degrees from Dallas Baptist University in business administration, information management and electronic engineering.
Mike is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE). Mike is also a Fellow of the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME), and is also a past CHIME Board Member. He has obtained the CHIME Healthcare CIO Certification (CHCIO), and is currently serving on CHIME's Public Policy Steering Committee. He is a Fellow in the Healthcare Information Systems Society (HIMSS), and is a past member of the HIMSS Advocacy and Public Policy Steering Committee. Mike is a member of Health Information Systems Executive Association (HISEA), and is currently on the Board of the American Hospital Association (AHA) Solutions Company. He is a past Board Member of healthcare IT product assessment company KLAS, and is a faculty member of the CHIME "CIO Boot Camp".
