Sharon A. MacDonald
Chief Foundation Officer
Vice President Oncology
Palliative Care Services

Sharon MacDonald joined Lee Memorial Health System in 1998 and in 2001, was appointed Chief Foundation Officer for the system. She is a member of the System Planning Group, which is the leadership team responsible for long-term strategic planning and facility development and expansion. In 1998, her role was to expand and further develop the health system's cancer program, a success evident with the 2008 opening of the Regional Cancer Center.

Leadership Responsibilities
Sharon is responsible for the oversight and development of the Lee Memorial Health System Foundation, whose task is to raise philanthropic dollars to support the mission of the health system. Working with an outstanding team of professional staff and a dedicated Board of Trustees, the Foundation has experienced double digit growth and is now embarking on a massive campaign to build America's Newest Children's Hospital.

She also is responsible for setting the strategic direction and the planning for Oncology and Palliative Care Services, including two inpatient units and outpatient oncology operations. She and her leadership team create a well-coordinated and aligned plan for both inpatient and outpatient cancer care that is quality driven and fiscally sound. Palliative Care Services recently have expanded with the addition of a physician and medical director.

Professional Experience
Sharon has been involved in health care for more than 35 years and has held clinical, academic and administrative positions in both Canada and the U.S. She has devoted almost half of her career to developing centers of excellence in cancer care and women's services, and in trying to improve quality and access to care for the management of disease and maintenance of wellness. She is an advocate for those in need. She has been long recognized as not only a leader, but an expert in her field.

Education
Sharon was born in Nova Scotia, Canada and became a U.S. citizen in 2006. She holds a Bachelor of Science in nursing from St. Francis Xavier University and a master's degree in nursing from the University of British Columbia in Canada.

Sharon has published numerous articles and presented many papers on health-related topics at both the local and national level. She has participated on a variety of volunteer boards and was a founding Board member of the Association of Cancer Executives. She has been highly recognized for her work and has received several awards, including two San Diego Emmy awards for Excellence in Educational Video and the Saks Fifth Avenue Key to the Cure Lifetime Achievement Award.
