ARNP: Four Letters That Can Mean A Lot To You

Click here for list of ARNPs.

ARNP stands for “Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner,” and ARNPs have become very important in today’s family practice office or internal medicine practice.

ARNPs have advanced training above and beyond a nursing degree that qualifies them to offer primary care to patients in many situations. Nurse practitioners have the expertise to deal with many types of acute problems and also help with the care of chronic illnesses.

Acute illnesses are those that are typically short-term; they can be treated and the patient heals. Acute problems include coughs and colds, infections, sprains, urinary tract infections, bronchitis and so forth.

Many ARNPs also understand chronic diseases and can manage a patient’s ongoing medical care after the doctor develops a treatment plan. These conditions include diabetes, high blood pressure, and other illnesses. The nurse practitioner works in conjunction with the physician to provide the best care for the patient.

ARNPs are not only an option if the regular doctor is unavailable. Many ARNPs have their own list of patients that they see. That’s because it’s often easier to get an appointment with the nurse practitioner, and many people like knowing they can be seen without having to wait several days.

These are qualified professionals, and they work closely with the physicians in the office. Nurse practitioners are very valuable today in delivering primary care as well as different types of specialty care.
