The
next time you visit your doctor, wouldn’t it be nice if he or she
could access your full medical history with a few quick keystrokes?
Or, chart your child’s growth history and point out trends in his or
her health and development with the click of a mouse? Thanks to
Lee Memorial Health System's new Epic system, these will soon be realities.
Epic is an electronic medical records system that is being
deployed to all Lee Memorial Health System facilities. Pediatrician Piedade Silva has been
using Epic for more than a year and loves all she can do. “Epic
allows us to provide better, more complete patient care. I can look
up my patients’ medical histories and see immediately what
medications they are taking, what vaccinations they have
had and nearly anything else I need to know,” she says.
Parents and children also get a kick out of the EMR, she says. “I
pull up growth charts, so I can show children their height and
weight. It’s nice and visual, and it allows me to give more
information to parents,” she says.
Epic is the future of health care, says Dr. Silva. “And we’re proud
to be on the leading-edge offering it to our patients,” she says.
