With
one of the largest cancer programs in the state, Lee Memorial Health
System and its physician partners are consistently working to
enhance the quality of care for patients diagnosed with cancer and
receiving treatment in Southwest Florida. Thanks to their
efforts, the journey for patients fighting cancer will get a little
easier when the Lee Cancer Care Outpatient Center opens this fall in
Fort Myers. The new Center will be conveniently located at the
northwest corner of Interstate 75 and Colonial Boulevard and will
offer some of the most progressive medical consultations, treatments
and support care available.
"This Center is a dream come true," says Dr. James Orr Jr., FACOG,
FACS, Medical Director for Lee Cancer Care and Florida Gynecologic
Oncology. "It is a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary center
that consolidates care for cancer patients and addresses the variety
of physical, emotional and spiritual aspects of cancer diagnosis,
treatment and post treatment care."
LMHS is partnering with several area physicians and providers to
establish the comprehensive Center. Services will include
radiation therapy provided by 21st Century Oncology, a PET/CT
scanner, a Lee Cancer Care outpatient infusion area, Florida Cancer
Specialists offices and treatment center, and Florida Gynecologic
Oncology offices.
The four-story, 62,000-square-foot Center features soothing
architectural interiors and an exquisite healing garden with water
features, aromatic herbal plants and wandering pathways for solitude
and reflection.
"The Center's treatment of both the body and the spirit, with the
latest in research and findings, reflects a synergy of medical
care," says Sharon MacDonald, LMHS' Director of Oncology.
The Center will also provide a large measure of convenience for
patients. "The Center will serve as a one-stop location where
patients can get imaging, radiation, chemotherapy and other services
all in one setting," says Dr. James Rubenstein, Medical Director for
21st Century Oncology, one of the Center's partner providers.
"Cooperation between all the partners involved is creating a health
care environment that will provide many benefits for the patients."
"Condominium space is available on a limited basis for other
physicians who are interested in serving men and women with cancer,"
Dr. Orr says. "Being together in the same physical location
creates a significant synergism from the physician perspective,
which benefits both doctors and patients."
Lee Cancer Care has been providing comprehensive cancer care and
education to the people of Southwest Florida for more than 25 years.
