There is a large photo of the chapel at the Monastery of Saint Clare
in the room of Sister Mary Emmanuel Kilkenny at HealthPark Care &
Rehabilitation Center. Plenty of candles also occupy space in Sister
Mary Emmanuel’s room, where she has been a resident for the past few
years. Sister Mary Emmanuel, who is 90 years old, is never alone.
The sisters of Saint Clare are always with her, 24 hours a day. That
is why they have come to think of HealthPark Care & Rehabilitation
Center as a second home, too. “We stay in shifts. Tuesday is my day,
but I am usually at the Center five days a week. The staff there is
just wonderful,” says Sister Mary Frances.
“They always make sure we know what’s going on with Sister Mary
Emmanuel. I can ask questions whenever I want, and we have quarterly
Care Conferences,” she also says.
The Center provides 24-hour care and rehabilitation services for
long-term residents and short-term residents, such as those staying
less than 30 days following a medical procedure like a hip or knee
replacement. There are beds for about 120 patients.
“We have regular Care Conferences, where family members and the
patient can meet with our entire multi-disciplinary team to
ask questions and receive updates,” Nancy says. “This also gives our
team a chance to collaborate to ensure the patient is receiving the
best possible care.”
However, it’s not just patients and family members who benefit
from these relationships, especially with the Sisters of Saint
Clare, Nancy says. “We care for Sister Mary Emmanuel, and the other
sisters care for us. They minister and pray for us,” she says. “They
are like our family.”
