About
the HCAHPS Patient Survey
HCAHPS (Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and
Systems) is a survey of health care patients supported by the Centers
for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS). It is designed to be a standardized
tool for measuring and reporting quality of care across all hospitals
in the United State.
There are two stand-alone questions:
1. What number would you use to rate this hospital during your stay?
(0=Worst, 10= Best)
2. Would you recommend this hospital to your friends and family?
The survey also asks two to three questions each from seven
categories:
-Communication with Doctors
-Communication with Nurses
-Communication about Medicines
-Cleanliness and Quiet of Physical Environment
-Discharge Information
-Pain Control
-Responsiveness of Hospital Staff
