When Sue Battig started as an outpatient lab manager, Lee Memorial
Health System had two outpatient draw stations. Five years later,
Sue considers her 2009 Toyota Camry to be her office, as she now
manages eight draw stations. “One of our stations draws nearly 200
patients a day,” Sue says. “It’s pretty
amazing. We service so many patients in the area, and now we will be
able to service so many more.”
Last year, Lee Lab Services processed more than 110,000 patient
visits. This year, lab outpatient services have expanded,
opening
three new locations. The latest outpatient lab will open
Nov. 2 at the Bonita Springs Community Health Center at the corner
of Coconut Road and South Tamiami Trail, extending the
convenience of Lee Lab Services to the Bonita and Estero
communities. “What makes our draw stations exceptional?” Sue says.
“We treat all of our patients with compassion and respect
because we put ourselves in their places as a health care consumer.
We ask ourselves how we would want to be treated if we were in their
place.”
Lee Lab Services performs the laboratory testing that physicians
often order to help screen, diagnose and treat patients for various
medical conditions. Common tests include complete blood counts,
cholesterol screens, glucose levels and coagulation studies. The
highly skilled phlebotomists specialize in acquiring samples from
infants through seniors. “All of our staff meets annual competencies
to draw blood for all age groups,” Sue says.
No appointments are necessary for Lee Lab Services. Wait times
tend to be around 10 minutes, as most patients leave the building a
mere 15 minutes from the time they arrive. “Our patient satisfaction
scores are exceptional,” Sue says. “This makes us proud and gives us
something to continue to strive toward."
Once samples are collected, specimens are promptly sent to the
LMHS core laboratory for testing. Results are sent directly to the
ordering physician within 24 hours. Patients can help to ensure a
speedy visit by remembering to bring their doctor’s written order,
insurance information and photo ID.
Lee Lab Services accepts most major insurance plans, Medicare and
Medicaid. For the convenience of self-paying patients, draw
stations accept all major credit cards. “Please double-check with
your doctor to see if you need to fast or make any special
preparations for your test,” Sue says. “We will work very hard
to make your visit a convenient and pleasant experience.”
