The Rehabilitation Hospital Designated a Center of Excellence
The Rehabilitation Hospital—Lee Memorial Health System's 60-bed
comprehensive inpatient rehabilitation facility located at Lee Memorial Hospital—
earned the center of excellence designation
from the Neuro Developmental
Therapy Association (NDTA).
"This designation recognizes our treatment of adults with central nervous system dysfunction," explains Walt Ittenbach, vice president of The Rehabilitation Hospital.
"Achieving this distinction demonstrates our conformance to NDTA standards related to clinical excellence, education, training, and our team approach to treatment. We are proud to be one of only two health systems in the country to earn this designation."
The Neuro Developmental Treatment (NDT) Approach identifies the individual patient's strengths and impairments and a treatment plan is created and implemented based on functional abilities and limitations. "NDT is a hands-on, problem solving approach," Walt says. "Intervention involves direct handling and guidance to optimize function, and the approach is guided by the patient's reactions throughout every treatment session. Our work is a collaboration between patients, families, caregivers and other health care professionals."
Walt reports that 72 percent of the therapists—physical, occupational and speech/ language pathologists—at The Rehabilitation Hospital are NDT certified and/or trained.
"The center of excellence designation assures our patients and their families that we deliver safe, high quality and leading-edge care," Walt says. "The Rehabilitation Hospital is an environment that promotes ongoing clinical education to advance clinical excellence. We are committed to providing the most comprehensive, effective and outcome-oriented medical rehabilitation services to our community."
“Our work is a collaboration between patients, families, caregivers and other health care professionals,” says Walt Ittenbach.
